The Char-Griller Pro Deluxe is a pretty solid charcoal grill available for a reasonable price. The size is big enough to host the next barbecue party in your neighborhood.
Get your friends and family together, and everyone can chime in with their favorite meat to put on the grill. A potluck dinner is my preferred way to keep costs down and also to try different dishes which is always exciting.
Anyway, back to our topic. As you can see in the picture, the Pro Grill Deluxe features a condiment basket, a woodside shelf with utensils hooks and a bottom wire shelf which is handy to put the bag with the charcoal.

The trouble when using charcoal is usually cleaning the BBQ. It takes a lot of effort and is one of the things I don’t fancy much.
The Char-Griller makes this process quite easy though because you can pull out the pan from the side to remove the ashes.
If you use natural charcoal you can use the ashes in your garden. Otherwise, the ashes will need to go in the trash.
The hood has a temperature gauge and a chimney. I personally use an infrared temperature gun for more precise measuring. Also, I’d also recommend heat resistant gloves when operating a BBQ.
Here is a handy tip: Before you use the grill for the first time, please season the cast iron grate and the inside of the grill with some vegetable oil and heat the BBQ for a ‘test drive’.
What Are The Highlights Of The BBQ Char-Griller Pro Deluxe Grill
The best parts of the Pro Deluxe Grill for me are:
- the cast iron grate
- the removable pan to clean out the ashes
- the size
- the solid build – great value for money
But of course, there also things that are not so great and I have read a few customer reviews on Amazon regarding some drawbacks.
The Cons
I want to mention that quite a few of these reviews are dated from years ago e.g. 2007 or 2008. So I don’t know if similar issues still exist. But what has been mentioned quite regular until now is that the package often was damaged, half-open and some parts were missing.
That is obviously something that needs to be addressed by the company.
My advice is to get in touch with the customer service team as soon as possible to let them know.
The grill is heavy with 81 lbs so it needs to be carried by two people. Delivery services usually just have one person so that could be an issue.
The assembly can be tricky too and is best carried out by two people. Unless you are an experienced handyman, I guess.
The condiment shelf doesn’t hold much since the metal holding isn’t strong enough. That is something to bear in mind.
My Verdict
If you are looking for a solid and sturdy yet affordable charcoal barbecue grill, then the Char-Griller Pro Deluxe Charcoal Grill might be the right choice for you.
It is a good sized grill and features a cast-iron grate and is easy to clean with the removable pan.
Summer is just around the corner so it is time to get ready for the next grill season.
By the way, if you plan to leave the grill mostly outside, I would recommend getting the cover as well.
